Add one of aviation history's most fascinating unrealized fighter designs to your collection with the Northrop F-23 Black Widow II Blue 054 Su-57 Aggressor 1/72 Diecast Aircraft by Hobby Master.
Part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series, this collectible presents the F-23 in a fictional “what-if” Su-57 Aggressor scheme assigned tactical number Blue 054 of the 65th Aggressor Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base.
The concept combines the unmistakable shape of Northrop's YF-23 Advanced Tactical Fighter prototype with a modern aggressor-style camouflage treatment inspired by Russia's Sukhoi Su-57. The result is an imaginative model rooted in two generations of advanced fighter aircraft design.
With an opening canopy, pilot figure, detachable ordnance loads, display stand, and detailed surface features, this substantial 1/72 model makes an impressive display piece for collectors of experimental aircraft, stealth fighters, and modern military aviation.
The Northrop YF-23 was developed as part of the U.S. Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition to create a new generation of air-superiority fighter.
Northrop teamed with McDonnell Douglas to develop the radical-looking aircraft. Two YF-23 prototypes were constructed and evaluated against competing prototypes of the Lockheed YF-22.
The YF-23 incorporated stealth characteristics, advanced aerodynamics, and its instantly recognizable diamond-shaped wings and widely separated engine nacelles. Its unusual configuration gave it an appearance unlike virtually any operational fighter aircraft of its era.
The Air Force ultimately selected the competing YF-22 design in 1991, which evolved into the operational F-22 Raptor. The YF-23 therefore never entered production, but it remains one of the most recognizable experimental fighter aircraft in modern aviation history.
The two real YF-23 prototypes were given memorable unofficial names: “Black Widow II” and “Gray Ghost.”
The Black Widow II name paid tribute to Northrop's earlier P-61 Black Widow, the famous American night fighter of World War II.
This Hobby Master model takes that historical aircraft in an entirely fictional direction. The real YF-23 never served with the 65th Aggressor Squadron and never wore this Su-57-inspired camouflage.
That's precisely what makes this particular release unusual: it asks collectors to imagine what an operational descendant of the YF-23 might look like in a modern adversary-training role.
