Bring a distinctive chapter of modern commercial aviation history to your collection with this Boeing 717-200 Delta Air Lines N947AT 1:200 scale diecast aircraft model by GeminiJets.
Finished in Delta Air Lines' recognizable white, blue and red livery, this detailed Gemini 200 Series model recreates the compact twin-engine jetliner that became an important part of Delta's short- and medium-haul fleet. Its 1:200 scale provides an impressive combination of display size and aircraft detail for commercial aviation collectors.
Features:
The aircraft we know today as the Boeing 717 actually began life as a McDonnell Douglas design. Originally developed as the MD-95, it was intended as a smaller, modern successor within the long-running Douglas DC-9/MD-80 family.
When Boeing and McDonnell Douglas merged in 1997, the MD-95 program became part of Boeing. Rather than retaining the McDonnell Douglas designation, the aircraft was marketed as the Boeing 717, giving this relatively small twin-engine jetliner a unique place in the histories of both major American aircraft manufacturers.
The 717 was designed primarily for short- and medium-haul service where airlines needed frequent flights without the capacity of a larger mainline jet. Its rear-mounted engines and T-tail preserved the recognizable configuration inherited from the Douglas DC-9 family.
Delta Air Lines eventually became the world's largest Boeing 717 operator, building a substantial fleet of the type for domestic service. Aircraft such as N947AT helped connect major Delta hubs with regional and midsized markets, making the 717 a familiar sight at airports throughout the United States.
For collectors, the Boeing 717 represents something unusual: an aircraft whose development began under McDonnell Douglas but whose production identity ultimately carried the Boeing name.
